James Richard “Jim” Kelly
James Richard “Jim” Kelly, 77, of Halfway, Md., died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at his home. Born Dec. 4, 1931 in Emmitsburg, Md., to the late Francis Richard and Donelean Mildred Davis Kelly.
He was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic High School of Emmitsburg, Md.
He was employed by United Food and Commercial Worker’s Local #692 of Baltimore, Md., from 1958-1982. Jim was also the past financial secretary and treasurer for central Maryland Labor Council, past vice president of Maryland State and D.C. AFL-CIO and labor person of the year for 1998 central Maryland
AFL-CIO Council. After retiring from United Food, he worked for Schindle’s Pharmacy in Hagerstown, Md. for 10 years.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Halfway, Md. He received Arch Diocesan Medal of Honor in 1992.
Spending time with his family was his favorite activity.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Mary Orndorff Kelly of Halfway, Md. They were married Sept. 10. 1955.
Also surviving are five sons, Dennis M. Kelly and wife, Teresa of Hagerstown, Md., Stephen P. Kelly and wife, Sandy of Williamsport, Md., Philip A. Kelly and wife, Donna of Hagerstown, Md., Keith E. Kelly and fiance, Alta of Unionville, Va., and Brian R. Kelly and wife, Denise of Hagerstown, Md.; one
sister, Ann Marie Green of Emmitsburg, Md.; and 10 grandchildren, Sarah Bradley, Suzanne Reid, Ryan Kelly, Kristen Kelly, Lauren Kelly, Sharon Kelly, Susan Kelly, Leana Kelly, Samantha Kelly and Jack Kelly.
He was predeceased by one sister, Theresa Mackley.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md. on Thursday, April 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 1 p.m. on Thursday for the convenience of the family and friends. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday by
Father Christopher Moore.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Friday, April 24 at 10 a.m., with Father Christopher Moore celebrant.
