Mr. John Edmund Shorb, 78, of
5115 Old National Pike, Frederick,
died suddenly Sunday, Sept. 26 at
his home.
Born April 17, 1926 in Frederick
County, he was the son of the late
John W. and Rachael Victoria Martin
Shorb. Mr. Shorb was a 1943 graduate
of Emmitsburg High School.
He joined the U.S. Army and
served in the Air Corps as a radio
operator and navigator, flying over
France and Germany during the
occupation. He operated a grocery
store at Middleburg, then in
Frederick, the 5th Street Market.
In 1958 he became owner-operator
of the Crossroads Inn at Keymar
until his retirement in 1984. He was
a member of the South Mountain Rod
and Gun Club; V.F.W. Post 8806,
Union Bridge; Orioles Club of
Frederick and American Legion Post
168, Thurmont. He was a former
member of the Owls Club of
Frederick. --He enjoyed traveling,
hunting, fishing and making wine.
Surviving are his wife, Winifred
Late Shorb Miller of Keymar; two
sons, Randy Shorb and Jay Shorb,
both of Keymar; two grandsons, John
M. Shorb and wife Kiersten, Andrews
Air Force Base, Daniel R. Shorb of
New London, Conn.; three sisters,
Virginia King and husband Earl of
Walkersville, Mary Helen Kocher of
Myersville, Pa., and Vivian
Whitehead of Pensacola, Fla.
