Charles B. Peters

Charles Bernard Peters, 80, of 2644 St. Paul Road, Lutheran Village, and formerly of 504 A Marsh View Drive, Quincy Village in Quincy Township, Pa., and Winter Haven, Fla., died Monday, May 26, 1997, at Piney Mountain Retirement Home in Fayetteville, Pa.

Born May 27, 1916, in Emmitsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Bernard F. and Gertrude Bowling Peters.

He worked as a railroad conductor for Conrail Reading Railroad until his retirement after 30 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1940 to 1945, where he earned the rank of master sergeant. He served as an aerial engineer serving at Schofield Barracks in the Hawaiian Islands. He reenlisted and served as a fighter pilot during World War II in Africa and the European Theater.

He was a member of St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church.

He also was a life member of V.F.W. Post 1599 in Chambersburg, and American Legion Post 0121 in Emmitsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Renfrew Peters of Chambersburg; one daughter, Anna Marie Beulian of Havertown, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Carol R. Norman of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Sister Baptista of the Sisters of Charity of Washington, D.C., Margueritte Wolfe, Teresse Hollinger and Barbara Vaughn, all of Emmitsburg; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian Kuhn; and one brother, Sterling Peters.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, corner of North Broad and East Main Street, Waynesboro, Pa., with the Rev. Thomas Hemler as celebrant. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
