Weather Watch: Fair and mild (1,2,3,4) with some showers (5,6,7,8). Fair and warm (9,10,11,12) continuing with fair and warmer temperatures (13,14,15). Warm with STORMS (16,17,18,19) with more showers and Stomrs (20,21,22). Fair and very warm 23,24,25,26) with scattered showers and warm weather (27,28,29,30,31).

Tornado Watch: The Almanack sees possible tornado activities from May 1st to the 3rd.

Full Moon: May has naturally become known as the Flower Moon because of the many flowers blooming after those April showers! It also has been known as the Milk Moon because cows appeared to produce more milk during this month. There will be two Full Moons in May. The first occurs on the 2nd at 5:09AM and the second will occur on the 31st at 8:04PM.

Special Notes: In April, 1963. President John F. Kennedy met with the National Council of Senior Citizens and then designated May as Senior Citizens Month in recognition of the 17 million Americans who had reached the age of 65. In 1980, Senior Citizens Month became Older Americans Month. Make note that the United Postal Service will raise the price of its First Class stamp from $.39 to $.41 on May 14th. The good news is that the new stamp will be considered a "forever stamp" meaning it will always be valid no matter how much the rates go up in the future.

Holidays: Mother's Day is celebrated on Sunday May 13th. Instead of giving her cut flowers, consider planting some of her favorite ones outdoors. Don't forget Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20th or Memorial Day on Monday, May 28th. Enjoy the start of the 2007 summer season but do remember that without the dedication and sacrifices made by our armed services branches, we would not be enjoying our way of life today

The Garden: There is still time to plant annuals to enjoy this Spring and Summer. Plant tropical vines at your mailbox for bright flowers all Summer. Some good choices include Mandevilla, Bouganvillea, and Allamanda. Begin succession planting of hot weather annuals such as Zinnias, Marigolds, Celosia, and Portulaca at this time. When the ground temperatures reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit, it is safe to begin planting Okra, Pumpkin, Sweet Potatoes, Eggplant, Peppers, Peanuts, Watermelon, Cow Peas, Black-eyed Peas, Crowder Peas, Butter Peas and Butter Beans.
