Captain Galt's Company was
part of the 3rd Regiment, 2nd
Division, 11th Brigade and left
Emmitsburg on August 26th, 1814
where it marched to Taneytown
and then on to Baltimore. Most
of the men were from the
Emmitsburg, Taneytown and
Hampstead areas. They arrived at
Camp Hampstead on August 31st
and placed as reserves and in
the entrenchments. Henry Green
recalled the company being
stationed at the Chincapin Hill
entrenchments. "It rained a
great deal. Mud and water were
almost knee deep." Some men said
the were discharged as late as
November 3rd, 1814. The muster
roll read, August 31st through
October 27th, 1814.
According to Lieutenant
Snider, Galt's Company was
designated 1st Company of the
2nd Battalion commanded by Major
George M. Eichelbeger, 3rd
Regiment Infantry commanded by
Colonel Henry Stemble. He stated
that the company was mustered
into service at Camp Hampstead
