(2/19) Becoming a realtor is simple these days. With many schools offering online programs, you can get your professional license from the comfort of your living room. A career as a realtor in WA is not only lucrative but dynamic.
If you want to start your journey towards becoming a realtor in WA, you are in the right place. Herein, we look at the requirements at each stage, including a rough estimate of what you will spend.
What Are the Prerequisites?
You must meet eligibility prerequisites to work in Washington's realty industry. You must be 18 years old or above with a high school graduation certificate or equivalent. Also, you must be ready to undergo a criminal background check.
You must also be a legal U.S. citizen. You won't spend anything at this stage. All you need are your documents to show that you are a citizen and your high school diploma. The background checks will be done later on when getting the license.
Let's Find a School
Our focus is on online schools. Many schools offer online programs, but your goal is to find one that meets your needs. First, ensure that the school is accredited by the state before enrolling.
Also, read reviews and testimonials from former students to learn more about the school. Focus on the curriculum, professionalism, student support, and payment options. You want to study in a school with a high pass rate and the best tutors in town.
The approved real estate study plan covering all of the essential topics will cost you between $120-230 at RealEstateU depending on the selected study plan. Once you begin the course, ensure that you sign up as a student on the PSI Testing Excellence website.
Sit For the State Exam
After you are done with the coursework and feel confident enough, schedule the exam. But before that, invest in exam prep study plans. The materials can be found for free online and at your local community library. Some schools also provide flashcards to help you during your studies.
The exam registration fee is around $138.25. The exam is available in two parts: national and state, with each section being tested separately. Students must sit and pass both within six months or risk retaking both tests.
Finally, Get Your License
The DOL will send you your test results. If you've passed, you are now closer than ever to becoming a realtor in WA. But first, you must submit your fingerprints for an integrity and trustworthiness check. Schedule an appointment with the state-approved electronic fingerprinting center.
There is a fee involved, around $34.75, which will cover the whole process, including background checks. The state may contact you for more information if you have prior convictions in your name. If everything is okay, finish your license application. This will set you back around $146.25.
With your license in hand, all you need is a sponsoring broker to mentor you for your license to be active. The broker will supervise you and help you build your career as a new realtor in WA.
