Commissioners sworn in,
Town Council reorganizes

(6/15) At the June 13th Town Council meeting, Burgess Heath Barnes swore in current Commissioner John Cutshall and former Burgess Bill Rittelmeyer as the town’s newest commissioners.

Rittelmeyer previously served 10+ years as a Commissioner, and from 2015 to 2019 served as the Town’s Burgess. Rittelmeyer said he was "honored to be serving the citizens of Woodsboro again." Cutshell will be starting his third consecutive term as commissioner, but has severed on off as a commissioner since the early 1990s.

Rittelmeyer received 39 write in votes in the May 13 election, while Cutshall, whose name was the only official candidate on the ballot, took home 32.

Rittelmeyer will be filling the seat of Dana Crum who chose not to seek re-election so she could spend more time with her family.

Following Rittelmeyer’s and Cutshell’s swearing in, the Council reorganized. Commissioner Bud Eckenrode, was nominated to succeed Crum as the President of the Council. As President, Eckenrode will be responsible for managing the town meetings when Barnes is unable to attend. In addition, Eckenrode will assume Crum’s Park’s Commission Liaison role.

Barnes noted that given the amount of time the Park’s Liaison spends on writing grants, it only made sense for Eckenrode to be President of the Council.

Commissioner Cutshall opted to retain his current position as the Streets Commission Liasion, and Commissioner Jesse Case opted to remain the Liaison to the Town’s Planning Commission.

With Cushall and Case opting to retain their current liaison responsibilities, Commissioner Rittelmeyer was assigned to be the liaison to the Water & Sewer Commission.

The ink hadn’t even dried when the Commissioners began to voice their priorities in their new roles. Eckenrode said he would coordinate a meeting of the Council to walk through Memorial Park to identify a suitable location for the Skatepark so work can finally begin. Eckenrode also asked the town to look into not moving a wet area of ground on Coppermine Road that was home to a wide diversity of wildlife that all the neighbors enjoyed.

Cutshall meanwhile raised the need for additional speed limit signs along Main Street to deal with the constant complaints of drivers ignoring the speed limit. Case asked about rezoning alleys in town to limit their use as through streets.
