(4/3) A city branch of the Woodsboro Bank
was robbed Friday by a hooded man who demanded cash by passing a teller a note,
Frederick police said.
No one was injured and no immediate arrests were made in the 2:50 p.m. holdup
at the bank on Old National Pike, said Lt. Tom Chase of the Frederick Police
Department.
Business was sparse inside the bank when the lone robber entered. One customer
and four employees were inside when the man passed the note to the female
teller, police said.
No weapon was displayed, and Lt. Chase would not discuss the specifics of the
note.
The robber left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police believe he
fled the area in a light blue small sedan, possibly a Celica or a Saturn, Lt.
Chase said.
Police throughout the county swarmed to the surrounding area after the heist,
searching for vehicles that fit the description of the robber's vehicle.
Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle fitting
the description on Edgewood Church Road, and a city officer stopped another car
on I-70 near New Market, but the drivers quickly were allowed to continue on
their way, police said.
The robber was described as a white man, about 6 feet tall and of thin to
medium build, wearing blue jeans, a light-colored hooded sweatshirt a
waist-length jacket and a baseball cap.
The baseball cap had a dark bill and a white top. The jacket was royal blue in
front and white in back with the royal blue color across the shoulders and down
the sleeves, police said.
The man wore the hood to his sweatshirt up and sunglasses over his eyes,
despite the overcast conditions outside.
Detectives are studying the surveillance video taken from the bank's cameras
and compiling witness statements as the investigation continues.
