(5/1) Brian Williar is the new
lieutenant of the Thurmont Police Department.
He was sworn in during the April 28 Thurmont
Town Commissioners meeting.
“We had some senior people in various
agencies that applied from the state level and
county,” said Thurmont Mayor Martin Burns.
Williar, 52, grew up in Rocky Ridge and
graduated from Catoctin High School in 1973.
“I look forward to serving the town. I look
forward to being back in the town and its
people,” Williar said.
He served in the U.S. Army and Frederick
City Police. He retired as a captain from the
Frederick County Sheriff’s Office after nearly
20 years.
“I was looking for someone with command and
supervisory experience and I knew he was a
good leader,” said Thurmont Police Chief Greg
Eyler, who worked with Williar for over 20
years.
Eyler said Williar is very community
oriented, which is the type of officer that
the town needs.
“It’s going to make this job even easier
because we don’t have to learn who each other
are and how to work together,” Williar said.
Williar replace Shawn Tyler who resigned on
Feb. 10.
