(3/22) One of two men sought in the robbery of the Blockbuster Video in Thurmont has been charged in the Dec. 18 robbery.
The break in the case began when Thurmont Police Officer William Murray noticed a newspaper report about a robbery of a Hollywood Video in Anne Arundel County, according to Thurmont Police Chief Greg Eyler.
"He went down and interviewed the suspect and talked to the police," Eyler said.
Police were holding Juan Mario Biggs in the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup. Biggs is the suspect in three robberies - the Thurmont robbery, one in Anne Arundel County, and one in Hagerstown.
"Some of the tapes from the Hagerstown robbery were found in his car in Anne Arundel County," Eyler said.
During the robbery, two suspects stole money, videos and part of the surveillance system at the Blockbuster Video on Church Street. The armed suspects entered the store and held two employees at gunpoint. The suspects bound and gagged the employees before robbing
the business.
A search-and-seizure warrant was used to search Biggs' Baltimore address. Items related to the robberies were located and seized at the residence.
Police served an arrest warrant on Biggs March 6 at the Jessup prison.
Biggs has been charged with armed robbery, theft over $500, theft under $500, false imprisonment, reckless endangerment, second-degree assault, handgun on person and handgun use in the commission of a felony - violent crime.
Eyler said at some future date, Biggs would be brought back to Frederick County to stand trial.
Arrest of the second suspect in the robbery is forthcoming, according to police.
