Tenor Jeffrey Fahnestock and Guitarist James Hontz Warm the House for Music, Gettysburg!

(10/10) Two of the Sunderman Conservatory’s most honored faculty members climb the Hill for a magnificent evening of Music, Gettysburg! Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 4pm in the Gettysburg Seminary chapel. Tenor Jeffrey Fahnestock and guitarist James Hontz will perform this concert, originally scheduled for last spring, for the Music, Gettysburg! audience for the first time in duet.

The magnificent tenor and thrilling guitarist will perform songs depicting a collection of letters from composers arranged by Dominick Argento, some Mendelssohn, Benjamin Britten, Robert Moore and more. They will open the concert with three songs not to miss from the age of Napoleon by Marani , Carulli, and Mombelli. "Jeffrey has long been one of our favorite performers – his passion and humor are as obvious as his vocal agility" said Mark Oldenburg, Music, Gettysburg! chair, "and we’ve hoped to welcome James for quite some time. This is a dream team concert!"

Jeffrey Fahnestock, tenor, maintains a busy performance schedule in addition to his teaching role as Adjunct Assistant Professor, Sunderman Conservatory of Music. A native of central Pennsylvania, Mr. Fahnestock is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. He was awarded Fellowships for the study of art song and opera at the Tanglewood, Ravinia, and Blossom Music Festivals. Mr. Fahnestock has appeared frequently in Music, Gettysburg! venue and as a soloist across the United States with such groups as the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Folger Consort, Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, Washington Bach Consort, Waukegan Symphony, Rochester Bach Festival, and many more.

Guitarist James Hontz studied at the New School of Music and received degrees in Guitar performance and in Guitar Performance/Music History from Temple University. In March of 2006, he was the third graduate from the Peabody Institute of Music at the Johns Hopkins University with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in guitar performance. Currently, Dr. Hontz serves, in addition to Gettysburg, in the faculties of Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA), Frederick Community College, Lincoln University, and Harford Community College. In addition to his many solo appearances, he is active in chamber music as a member of the award winning Hontz-McDermott Duo (flute and guitar).
