Music, Gettysburg! Presents "O Little Town: An American Christmas"

(12/15) The sights and sounds of an American Christmas will fill the air Sunday, December 20th as Music, Gettysburg! presents "O Little Town" at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Gettysburg Seminary.

This festive concert, one of the most popular in the Music, Gettysburg! season, will feature the carols, hymns and holy songs of the Christmas tradition that evokes the feel of the ancient Bethlehem in Palestine with the "small towns" of our own Christmas experiences. Also featured in this concert is the premiere of "Come, Ride This Holy Night," a new composition of a Herman Stuempfle hymn text set to music by Stephen P. Folkemer. The concert will include the opportunity for the assembly to add its voices to the Phillips Brooks’ favorite, "O Little Town of Bethlehem, Silent Night, and more. You’ll hear such favorites as "I’ll Be Home for Christmas," "What Child is This?," "Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head," and more.

Performing for the concert is a quartet of voices including soprano Kathleen Sasnett, alto Chelsea Buckley, tenor Jeffrey Fahnestock, and baritone Wayne Hill. Ben Jones leads the septet of Music, Gettysburg! Brass players with Michael Matsinko on piano, Teresa Bowers, flutist and James Hontz guitarist adding their festive sounds of music making. The Gettysburg College Children’s Choir directed by David Bowman, will lift the community spirit in song as well. Narration will be provided by Susan Russell and George Muschamp from the Theatre Arts faculty of Gettysburg College.

Come prepared to sing "O Little Town of Bethlehem," be reminded of the spirit of the Christmas season and imagine how the world events of one little town can be celebrated across the world in yet another small town.

Come enjoy this Sunday evening holiday concert which is free and open to the public. The Seminary Chapel is located at 147 Seminary Ridge on the west edge of Gettysburg.
