Cormorant’s Fancy Brings Celtic Rhythms to an Outdoor Concert

(6/26) Not only will Cormorant’s Fancy share its rousing Celtic repertoire with the crowd on Gettysburg Seminary’s campus Sunday, July 5, at 5:00pm, but the band will also celebrate the release of their brand-new CD "Here and There." Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to Schmucker Grove and relax while the musicians perform Irish, Scottish, American, English and Australian tunes from the Hill-Unger Performance Platform.

Join Stephen Folkemer (keyboard, concertina, vocals), Beth Folkemer (guitar, mountain dulcimer, keyboards & vocals), Andy Rosenfeld (vocals, bodhran, bones) Dan Diviney (bodhran, whistles & vocals), Margaret Folkemer (whistles, vocals, keyboard), Joel Folkemer (stand-up bass, electric bass, vocals, bodhran) and Norman Nunamaker (fiddle, vocals) Sunday for this free, Music, Gettysburg!-sponsored, open-air concert. They will be joined by soprano Melinda Warren Elnaggar. Warren has performed at such venues as the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC the Spoleto Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, and the Merkin Concert Hall in New York’s Kaufman Center.

The Cormorant is most likely the ‘black bird’ which is translated from Ó Duibheanaigh, the Irish ancestors of Dan Diviney, and is a fancy fiddle tune. Founded in 2003, Cormorant’s Fancy specializes in music of Ireland and the British Isles, along with some traditional music of Appalachia. The band has played in restaurants and pubs including The Fairfield Inn, Appalachian Brewing Company and T. Brendan O’Reilly’s in Harrisburg, Spiritfields, Dobbin House and O’Rorkes in Gettysburg, and Flannery’s Tavern on the Square in Mercersburg. The group has been featured at the Adams County Irish Festival, Adams County Heritage Festival, Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts (State College), Fort Hunter Days, History Meets the Arts Weekend, Huntingdon Arts Festival, McLain Celtic Festival, Penn-Mar Irish Festival, and Summer’s End Festival, as well as on several college campuses and private events. The band has opened for Malinky, followed legendary Tommy Makem, and has performed before the John Whelan Band and Derek Warfield.
