(8/23) September 15 and 16 make arrangements to catch
Bil Lepp at the first annual Northeast Storytelling Festival in historic
Gettysburg. The event will also feature regional storytellers. All festival
events will take place at the American Civil War Museum, 297 Steinwehr Avenue,
Gettysburg. Tickets for the Festival are $10 per show, $25 per show for a
family of 4, $20 for a weekend pass, or $40 for a family weekend pass.
Bil Lepp is five time champion of the West Virginia
Liars Contest. He tells original hilarious, tales that will bring a smile to
the face of even the most ill-humored person. Bil has been a Featured Teller at
the National Storytelling Festival several times, and at The Smithsonian
Folklife Festival. Bil is the author of three books of tales, four audio
collections, and he has had stories published in several national magazines.
Duke Divinity Magazine called Bil’s stories, "Awe inspiring cathedrals of
flapdoddle and bull." Bil has been telling tales for over fifteen years. He
tells original tall-tales written by himself and his brother. Bil has been a
regular at the West Virginia Liars Contest since 1990. Storytelling World
Magazine notes that, "Bil is a clever, versatile, magnificent, and charming
writer."
The two-day festival will feature storytelling shows
starting Friday evening at 8pm. Saturday will offer four shows scheduled for 11
am, 2 pm, 4 pm, and 7:30 pm. The 4 pm show will feature a Liar’s Contest – an
area of expertise for Lepp. Other participating storytellers are Larry Clowers,
Pat Anschuetz and Charlie Tarbox.
The Northeast Storytelling Festival, a not-for-profit
corporation created to advance performance, preservation and practice of
