From the Desk of Liberty Township
 Supervisor Walter Barlow

(8/2023) I hope everyone had a safe July! As you are driving through Liberty Township this month, many projects will be completed on Township roads. Russell Standard has completed the tar and chipping on Pecher Road and Wenschhof Road and AAA Paving is scheduled to perform work on the Old Waynesboro Road bridge, Sanders Road, and Boyle Road during the first week of August.

The Road Department stayed busy with storms in late June/early July with trees down on roads. Trees were cleared from various roads including McGlaughlin Road, Bullfrog Road, and Liberty Hall Road. I want to thank Bruce Pecher for helping after hours during the storms which made clean up times significantly faster.

School taxes were mailed out in July. I want to encourage all residents to take advantage of the 2% discount that can be applied until August 31. Please note that ALL school taxes that are collected are disbursed to the Fairfield Area School District. Now Municipal/County taxes are now in penalty phase collection until December 31. Remember to submit your payments if you have not already.

The Liberty Township Tax Collector will be hosting hours at the Municipal Building on August 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and 31 from noon to 3. Feel free to stop by to make your payments then, or you can still submit your payments via mail or the drop box at the Municipal Building.

I want to encourage all our residents to enjoy the rest of their summer. Here are some local events that will be fun to attend; On August 11th, at the Carroll Valley Ranch Trail Commons Park, there will be a neighborhood jamboree from 4 to 8 p.m.. There will be food trucks, ice cream, games, face painting, and live music. This neighborhood event will be a great way to connect with people who live locally while enjoying great music and food.

The 33rd Annual Peach Festival will be hosted at Hollabaugh Bros Inc. in Biglerville, on August 12th and 13th. There will be plenty to enjoy with peach flavored ice cream, milkshakes, pastries, and pies. There will also be live music and wagon rides. Also on August 13th, the Land Conservancy of Adams County will be hosting its 19th Annual Summer Picnic. Fried chicken and drinks will be provided. Guests should bring plates, cups, silverware, and a dish to share. RSVP by August 11th by calling 717-334-2828 or going online to www.PreserveAdams.org/summer-picnic .

Please remember to support local farmers markets. The Emmitsburg Farmers Market takes place every Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and the Adams County Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 8 to 1 at the Gettysburg Recreation Park. At these markets, there are a wide variety of vendors that sell fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, and plenty of other things to keep your fridges and pantries full. These farmers markets are a great way to eat healthily and support local businesses.

On August 23rd, the Fairfield Area School District will be welcoming back its students for their first day of school for the 2023-2024 year. Good luck to the first-time students within the district! As the year starts, please remember to support all the home athletic matches, including football, soccer, cross country, and other Fall sports. I hope all students within Liberty Township and neighboring municipalities have a great, safe, and fun school year!
