"Light the Park" community event
 slated for November 1

(10/21) Christ's Community Church, Emmitsburg, will be holding its first community picnic event on November 1.

The family outing, “Light the Park,” will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Emmitsburg Community Park and will be open to the public. The event is free.

Pastor John Talcott said the family event will feature a number of activities for children and families. “Light the Park” will feature food, games, crafts, a Bounce House, Kiddiepillar, Barrel Train rides, a children’s movie, “and loads of free fun and fellowship,” the pastor stated.

Talcott said the name for the event, “Light the Park,” was derived from the fact that the park will be turning dark around 6:30 p.m., a half hour after the activity has gotten underway. The church also chose the name, he said, “because we’re planning to light the park with something unusual and exciting.”

The pastor stated that “Light the Park” also represents the last outdoor event the church will be holding this year. “We want to be a blessing to the children and families of the community as we have one last outdoor event in preparation for the colder winter weather," he said.

The church has been holding monthly outdoor events in the park for church friends and family on the first Friday of each month for the past seven years. However, this is the first year Light the Park will be taking place.

The church held a movie night on October 4 in the park, which attracted “about 60 to 70 people,” Talcott said. The average attendance for their monthly outdoor events has been around 30 to 40 individuals.

The father stated that the events provide “a way to serve the community,” and get church members involved in outdoor activities.

“I personally would prefer for us as the church to be out in the community instead of in the church building, so we are excited about this opportunity to serve the community of Emmitsburg,” he said.
