Police expect two more arrests in coming days
(7/29) A second arrest has been made in the July 20 assault of a 77-year-old man. Thurmont Police anticipate making two more arrests within several days.
A juvenile was arrested Saturday afternoon on multiple charges including assault and robbery, said Chief Greg Eyler.
The 15-year-old boy, whose name was not released, was referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice and is at the Western Maryland Children's Center in Hagerstown.
He is from Emmitsburg but has family in Thurmont, Eyler said. He is a student at Catoctin High School.
About 3:30 a.m. July 20, Emory Rice, 77, of Emmitsburg Road, woke up in his bed feeling pain to his head and upper body, police said. After realizing he was being assaulted, he was able to fight
off his attackers who left his home.
Rice was taken to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Messages left with the hospital's public affairs office to ask about Rice's condition were not returned.
Eyler did not know Rice's condition but heard he had been improving.
The first arrest was made
Friday when Gage A. Caudle, 18, of Emmitsburg, was taken into custody.
Caudle is charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, malicious destruction of property, robbery, armed robbery, first-, second- and third-degree burglary, fourth-degree
burglary and fourth-degree burglary-theft.
The juvenile faces the same charges, Eyler said.
Caudle remained at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on Monday afternoon in lieu of $350,000 bail, authorities said.
A total of four arrests will be made in connection with the assault, Eyler said. The department is now applying for charges and warrants against another adult and a juvenile.
